Psalm 133 is a short little chapter...only a few verses long. It starts with these words... "How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony/unity!" and then just a few lines later, the Psalmist ends with..."And there the Lord has pronounced His blessing, even life ever-lasting!" As I have been praying for our Body here at FBC, the Lord gave me a picture this past week so I wanted to share it with you. Sometimes we hear about the things that seem to divide us...this generation or that one, this worship style or the other, 8:15 and 11:00, traditional or contemporary...and the list goes on... It seems like some see those as a crossroads...an intersection where two paths meet and then go off in their own directions, headed to separate places. Then the Lord spoke a word to my heart and showed me that His desire is that we see it more like a set of train tracks....running parallel, not perpendicular...realizing that both are headed the same direction...going to the same destination! Wow! You see, we are all in this together...we are on the same train (if you will). Aren't we headed to the same destination? To know God and make Him known... And here is the coolest part of the whole thing...if you look at a set of train tracks heading off into the distance, you notice that the further they go, the closer together they seem to come. Maybe, just maybe...if we stay on this train long enough, and learn to enjoy the ride, we'll continue to come together, in unity and harmony, and find the fullness of what it means for God to "pronounce His blessing!" Can we each check our hearts and see if there is anything there that might hinder this unity? Are the words we speak words of life and blessing? Are we uplifting and encouraging or do we seem to be critical...most of the time? I am praying for unity..not just in the building on October 12th, but in the Body...starting/continuing now. Just a few thoughts from my times of prayer...would love to hear your's... brian |
